Apple and date crisp

Perfect comfort dessert!

  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into wedges
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 8 dates, deseeded and coarsely chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 90g rolled oats
  • 75g Plain Flour
  • 25g shredded coconut
  • 55g brown sugar
  • 80g Avonmore Irish Butter, softened

To serve:

  • Avonmore Dessert Cream or Avonmore Luxury Fresh Custard

1          Preheat the oven to 180°C/160˚C fan/gas mark 4.

2          Put the apples in a large saucepan and sprinkle with caster sugar. Place over a low heat and cook with the lid on, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until apple is tender. Remove from the heat, add the dates and cinnamon and stir to combine. Transfer mixture to an ovenproof dish with about a 1 litre capacity.

3          In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, coconut and brown sugar. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles small crumbs.

4          Spoon the oats over the apple mixture and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and heated through. Serve with Avonmore Dessert Cream or Luxury Fresh Custard.
